Home Gyms and Cryotherapy
Home gyms, gym equipment, and cryotherapy sales are at an all time high due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Many states have ordered gyms closed, causing fitness enthusiasts to purchase equipment for use at home. But can home gyms and cryotherapy actually work together? Will going to a cryotherapy chamber in public be dangerous during the pandemic?
Can I add Cryotherapy to my Home Gym?
Yes, some people add a cryotherapy chamber to their home gyms, but for many this is too expensive. With many services being shut down it may be difficult to find cryotherapy in your area. Those with home gyms who want cryotherapy may be able to use their regular facility. If not you might find a chamber in a local chiropractic or medical office. These facilities can stay open as essential services, and they may offer specials for cryotherapy at this time. Existing rules require thorough sanitization for every open business and most are also requiring masks for all employees and visitors.
Is it Safe to do Cryotherapy Now?
Many people do not want to go to gyms during a quarantine or pandemic. Even in flu season it can be concerning to share equipment with other people. But is the inside of a cryotherapy chamber safe? Can germs and viruses live inside the chamber in the cold temperature? Most virures and bacteria can indeed survive freezing temperatures, but some cryotherapy chambers have antibacterial interior panels. The XR by Cryo Innovations has a non-porous surfaces. Additionally the surface wipes down easily with sanitizer. Other chambers— such as the Juka—have cloth lined interiors that can absorb bodily fluids, bacteria and viruses.
Will Cryo Prevent Sickness?
Cryotherapy will not prevent or cure an illness, and cryo will not protect you against coronavirus. But cryotherapy will help you stay on track with an exercise routine by helping you avoid sore muscles and inflammation. Most people fall off track with their exercise from soreness, stiffness, and painful swollen joints. Professional athletes and teams actually use whole body cryotherapy for preventing these problems. European football teams have gone on record and claim that cryotherapy actually prevents sports injuries.¹
