Would Cryotherapy Machines in Space Be a Viable Investment?
Cryotherapy is booming and is seen in more industries than ever before. But do cryotherapy machines have a place in space travel? When you hear of cryotherapy in space travel, you probably think of an astronaut that is in cryogenic sleep and sent to explore faraway planetary bodies. While this dream is far from being actualized, cryotherapy can actually be very useful in space exploration today.
As of 2019, the space industry is worth 423.8 billion U.S. dollars and is expected to grow by over 50% in 2040.¹ That is a lot that's being invested in this industry and with that comes a lot of astronauts. Unfortunately for them, however, the disruption of the day-night cycle and staying in a low gravity environment makes astronauts very tired and fatigued, especially when they get back home.
Fortunately, cryotherapy can be a useful tool for recovery and relaxation. Don't be surprised if you see an astronaut in a cryo-chamber after a flight. It’s still way too early to be able to send a cryotherapy machine to space as today. It costs $10,000 to put a single pound of payload in low-Earth orbit.² However, there are still ways that cryotherapy businesses can work with space travel agencies.
How Can Cryotherapy Businesses Invest in Space Travel?
Providing Cryotherapy Services Directly
Businesses can set up cryo chambers and other cryo equipment to provide services to astronauts after space travel. Cryotherapy can also be useful to them before they travel to help them relax. You can give offers and discounts to the servicemen and those working with them to attract and retain them as clients. Offering specialized services focused on them, solving their problems, and catering to their needs will also help grow your business.
Supplying Cryotherapy Equipment and Other Supplies to Other Businesses
You probably wouldn't be the only one trying to sell cryotherapy services to astronauts so expect some competition. Space stations may have their own cryotherapy chambers, and even if they don’t, other businesses may have started providing the service. You can also look into providing equipment and supplies to these companies for a profit. You will be able to offer more value to your clients since you'll be buying and selling the products in bulk.
Cryotherapy Consultant and Trainer
As an experienced cryotherapy practitioner, you could offer your knowledge and expertise to those offering cryotherapy services to astronauts. This business is relatively new and lucrative and the starting capital is minimal. You could offer training services to those opening their cryotherapy firms, and consultancy services to those that are facing difficulties. You however need to have significant skills and knowledge in the field.
Cryotherapy Technician
You can also start a career as a cryotherapy technician to those in space travel. The technician guides the clients through the process, setting up the machine, and adjusting it when needed. Since you will work directly with the astronauts you will need to be able to communicate effectively and have customer service skills. You also need to understand how the cryotherapy machine works and be conversant with all the security and safety features.
Cryotherapy Machines and Space Travel
Space travel is tedious. Long-distance traveling, disruption of the day-night cycles, and having to face other environmental changes could be very exhausting. Fortunately, however, cryotherapy presents a great way for professionals to decompress and rest and there is no reason why astronauts cannot take advantage of that.
